GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Matt Kevin McMillin, 62, was arrested yesterday on 11 child pornography charges.

On November 19, 2024, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children was alerted to a CyberTip regarding child sexual abuse material (CSAM) found on a Dropbox account. This account, associated with the name “Kevin McMillin,” contained 15 uploaded images. Dropbox supplied an email address linked to the account and several associated login IP addresses.

Among the IP addresses, one was connected to an AT&T Wireless account in Florida, another to a Comcast Cable account in Ft. Myers, and another to a Cox Communications account in Gainesville.

A detective from the Gainesville Police Department (GPD) initiated a subpoena to Cox, revealing the account holder as Kevin McMillin. A subsequent subpoena to Google for information related to the email account also identified the name “Kevin McMillin,” and a subpoena to Dropbox named “Kevin McMillin” as the owner as well. Additionally, Dropbox purportedly provided the account’s contents, which included more CSAM images and child erotica, alongside “numerous” images and videos of a white male. This included an image of a Florida driver’s license and an expired Colorado driver’s license, both issued to Matt Kevin McMillin.

The detective reported that 26 CSAM images were found in the Dropbox (the 15 original images plus 11 more); the images showed the same pre-pubescent girl and “would be considered a ‘series.’” Two other images of the same pre-pubescent girl were reportedly considered “child erotica,” as opposed to CSAM.

The detective searched Florida’s driver’s license database and located a license for McMillin, with a picture that matched the pictures of the white male in the Dropbox account.

A subpoena to Google for the contents of the suspect’s account reportedly produced seven images of pubescent juvenile females, “nude or posed sexually/provocatively”; further steps are being taken to determine the ages of the females. The account reportedly contained 14 additional images of age-questionable females, nude or in sexual/provocative poses. Many non-CSAM photos on the Google account matched images on the Dropbox account.

At about 8 a.m. on July 19, GPD executed a search warrant at McMillin’s home in Buckingham East (8400 block of NW 6th Avenue), and they spoke with McMillin.

Post Miranda, McMillin reportedly admitted ownership of the Dropbox account but said it “disappeared” a few months ago; he said that only he and his spouse had access to the Dropbox account, and he was adamant that his spouse was not responsible for the CSAM images on the account.

McMillin reportedly said the images were “pure handling of something that wasn’t understood”; he denied recognizing the images that had been stored in his Dropbox account. He reportedly said he has seen child pornography in the past on the internet and has accessed the dark web, as recently as a few months ago, to research suicide. When he was asked whether the reported images or any other CSAM images would be found on any of his devices, he reportedly said he wasn’t sure.

McMillin has been charged with unlawful use of a two-way communications device and 10 counts of possession of child pornography. He has no local criminal history. Judge Meshon Rawls set bail at $275,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
