Gainesville Woman on Pre-Trial Release Faces New Charges After Rent Payment Stabbing Incident

By Staff

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Larina Yvette Jones, 39, was taken into custody yesterday following accusations of stabbing a man amid a dispute regarding rent payments.

At approximately 1:09 p.m. on May 14, officers from the Gainesville Police Department were dispatched to a residence on the 1900 block of NW 32nd Place. The victim reported an altercation with Jones over unpaid rent, during which Jones allegedly refused to vacate the premises. The victim claimed that after stepping outside and then re-entering the house, Jones attacked him, stabbing him in the head and shoulder.

Police on the scene reportedly discovered a knife that matched the victim’s description and noted blood spatter on a wall. A witness mentioned that Jones had harbored animosity towards the victim for a while, leading to frequent and intense arguments between them.

Under questioning post-Miranda rights, Jones reportedly acknowledged the argument over rent but denied using any weapon during the confrontation.

Jones faces charges of aggravated battery resulting in bodily harm. Her criminal history includes four felony convictions, seven misdemeanor convictions, and one criminal traffic conviction, all non-violent. She previously served a state prison sentence, released in 2024. In July 2025, she was arrested for drug possession and had been wanted for a separate stabbing incident; she was released on bail for the drug charge, although the stabbing case was dismissed.

Judge Susan Miller-Jones ordered her held without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s Office to hold her without bail until trial; if the judge denies the motion, bail will be set at that hearing.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
