GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Scherymee Tierra Pinckney, 37, is facing charges after police say she tried to strike a man with her vehicle during a dispute.
A Gainesville Police Department officer was dispatched at about 7:46 p.m. on June 30 to a reported armed disturbance in the Cedar Grove area. According to the officer, video provided by a neighbor appeared to show Pinckney driving toward the victim as if attempting to hit him while he ran from the vehicle.
The victim told police that he and Pinckney had been arguing and that she attempted to run him over with her vehicle.
After being read her Miranda rights, Pinckney reportedly told the officer that she had argued with the victim and his family. She said the victim struck her vehicle with a shovel during the confrontation and that the victim’s mother then displayed a firearm and threatened her. Pinckney said she tried to leave when she saw the gun, “spinning out” in the grass as she drove away. She denied trying to hit the victim and said he was not nearby when she attempted to leave. The officer wrote, however, that the video did not support her version of events.
When officers placed Pinckney in handcuffs, she allegedly refused to get into the patrol vehicle, requiring officers to physically place her inside. During transport to the jail, she reportedly began hitting her head against the patrol vehicle’s glass and kicking the window. The officer pulled over to restrain her, and after she was removed from the vehicle, she allegedly spat toward two officers. Police took her to the ground, and she allegedly again refused to get back into the patrol vehicle before officers physically placed her inside a second time.
The officer also reported that Pinckney threatened to kill him or have someone else kill him.
Pinckney has been charged with aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and resisting an officer with violence. She has three misdemeanor convictions, including two classified as violent, and she is currently on pre-trial release in connection with a May arrest in Bradford County on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and felony property damage.
Judge Joy Danne noted that she did not find probable cause for aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer; she only found probable cause for battery on a law enforcement officer. She set bail at $20,000.
