A Georgia police chief has been arrested for alleged sex crimes against a minor.
On Thursday, Ashley Wilson, 40, who is the Police Chief of the Nicholls Police Department, was detained by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI). It is alleged that Wilson sent inappropriate text messages to a 15-year-old girl residing in Norcross. The teenager’s mother discovered these texts and promptly brought them to the attention of an officer at the Nicholls Police Department, as detailed in the GBI’s press release.
The messages reportedly sent by Wilson included requests for a sexual relationship with the minor. The investigation revealed that several of these messages were transmitted while Wilson was on duty.
WRDW reports that the mother alerted authorities on Wednesday, leading to Wilson’s arrest at Coffee County Jail by Thursday. He faces charges of three counts of enticing a child, one count of violation of oath of office, and one count of conspiracy to commit child molestation.
The GBI is actively investigating and encourages anyone with information to contact the GBI Regional Investigative Office in Douglas at (912) 389-4103 or the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office at (912) 384-4227. Anonymous tips can also be submitted by calling 1-800-597-TIPS (8477).
