Georgia Murder Suspect Captured After Allegedly Shooting Girlfriend in Head, Fleeing State

A man wanted for murder in Georgia was apprehended in Alabama after a two-day, two-state crime spree.

Mike Thomas, aged 28, was apprehended following a pursuit involving multiple agencies, which extended from Georgia to Alabama and resulted in the closure of a section of I-65, according to FOX 10. Thomas is accused of shooting his girlfriend in the head and jaw at an apartment complex on Washington Road in East Point on Sunday.

Al.com reported that neighbors saw the victim in desperate need of help.

“I just saw her running across the parking lot, holding her neck, and I saw blood coming from her face,” one witness said.

After the attack, Thomas escaped across state borders into Alabama. Authorities were notified, and Thomas was subsequently seen in Conecuh County after the Evergreen Police Department tried to initiate a traffic stop, as Fox 10 reported.

During the pursuit, Thomas allegedly shot at police. Officers deployed spike strips on I-65 in Baldwin County, disabling his vehicle.

Thomas then tried to hijack an 18-wheeler. The driver’s husband responded by shooting Thomas in the leg. He took off into the nearby woods but was apprehended six hours afterward.

The woman Thomas allegedly shot survived the attack.

Thomas faces charges in Georgia, including aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. In Alabama, he faces additional charges, including robbery and assault.

His bond was set at $300,000.
