A 24-year-old Georgia man has been charged with murder in the shooting death of his father earlier this week.
Tristin Hiram Scudder also faces an aggravated assault charge, WCTV reported.
The Thomas County Sheriff’s Office reported that Scudder himself dialed 911 to report the deadly shooting on Wednesday, leading to his arrest upon the deputies’ arrival, according to WALB.
The victim was identified as 46-year-old Franklin Hiram Scudder.
The incident report detailed, “Tristin Scudder claimed that his father, Franklin Scudder, had shown up at his house and caused a disturbance. Tristin further explained that during the conflict, his father tried to seize his firearm, at which point he shot his father in the back. Tristin noted that his father was no longer responsive.”
Authorities have not disclosed specifics about the nature of the “disturbance,” the reason the younger Scudder drew his weapon, or the circumstances under which his father was shot in the back while allegedly trying to take the gun.
Deputies also charged the shooter with possession of a firearm in commission of a crime.
He appeared in court on Thursday and was denied bond.
