Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – FBI agents have arrested Gainesville Police Department Detective Kelvin Mattair, a GPD spokesperson confirmed.
Specific details about the federal case were not immediately available. State charges have been filed alleging that Mattair obstructed a criminal investigation as a public servant, used a computer to commit fraud and illegally intercepted communications.
In a 2025 Facebook post, GPD said Mattair joined the department in 2018 as a civilian employee at the Reichert House, where he developed a strong commitment to community engagement and public safety. He graduated from the police academy in 2021 and became a sworn officer. Mattair later worked in patrol before becoming a detective with the Gun Violence Unit, where he helped investigate and prevent violent crime. The department also identified him as a member of its SWAT Unit, citing his advanced training and preparedness for high-risk situations.
