An Alabama man was reportedly arrested last week on littering charges after leaving flowers at his late fiancé gravesite.

WTVM reported that Hannah Ford, 27, died in a car crash on January 17, 2021, one month after she got engaged to Winchester Hagans. Hagans claimed his late fiancée preferred living flowers over cut flowers, so he left a planter box at her grave.

“Even though she is gone I promised her I would never bring her cut flowers again,” he told the news outlet.

The planter box was filled with Ford’s favorite flowers and decorated with pictures of her and Hagans. Hagans reportedly asked the city if he was allowed to keep the planter box at the grave, and he was told they would not take any action unless the decedent’s family complains.

So it came as a shock to Hagans when he was recently arrested for putting the planter box at Ford’s grave. WTVM reported that Ford’s father signed the warrant for Hagans’ arrest, which was for criminal littering.

Hagans alleged that Ford’s father never reached out to him before he was arrested. Ford’s father has not yet publicly commented on the incident.

Hagans told WTVM, “I just want to be able to put flowers by my fiancés grave.”
