GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Kendrick O’Neal Bradley, 28, was arrested yesterday after police said he stalked a woman because he wanted to “look at” her and twice went onto her front porch. According to the report, Bradley later told an officer he should not be around women and likely would have tried to have sex with the victim if he had been given the chance.
The first incident was captured at about 1 a.m. on July 20, when the victim’s doorbell camera recorded a man entering her attached, covered front porch. The video reportedly showed him taking one flip-flop, putting it in his waistband, and quickly running away.
On August 8 at about 10 p.m., the victim heard a loud noise outside her home and checked her doorbell camera. She saw a man carrying a backpack slowly walking toward her front porch. When she switched on her outside lights, the man crossed the street to a vacant home, where he remained for roughly five minutes while staring toward her residence.
The victim called 911, but the man had left before officers with the Gainesville Police Department arrived.
Fearing the man, the victim left to stay with a friend. Around 11 p.m. that same night, she again saw the same man on her doorbell camera. Using the camera’s two-way audio, she told him she was calling police and ordered him to leave her property; however, he did not appear to be discouraged and stayed in the area for a period of time before eventually leaving.
The responding officer wrote that between July 20 and August 8, the same man had been seen repeatedly walking past the victim’s home, which caused her emotional distress.
Police later showed the victim a photo lineup, and she reportedly eliminated every photo except Bradley’s. She told officers she could not be certain Bradley was the man she had seen at her house because his face appeared “chubbier” in the photo.
The officer noted that GPD has recent body-worn camera footage of Bradley, and he has lost weight since the photo in the line-up was taken. The officer identified the man in the doorbell camera video as Bradley.
Bradley was arrested in the 1700 block of NW 6th Street on August 11 and was interviewed at GPD Headquarters.
Post Miranda, he reportedly identified himself in the victim’s doorbell camera video and admitted to taking a flip-flop from the front porch. He reportedly said he often walks by the victim’s house, and after seeing the victim getting out of her car, he has walked by her house and stayed in the area to “look at” her. He reportedly said he should not be around women, and if he had encountered the victim while he was on her property, he probably would have attempted to have sex with her.
Bradley, who is described as homeless in a court document, told Court Services that he has been in the area for about two months. He has been charged with burglary of an occupied dwelling and stalking. He has three felony convictions (non-violent) and three misdemeanor convictions (non-violent). Judge Susan Miller-Jones ordered him held without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s Office to hold him without bail until trial; if the judge denies the motion, bail will be set at that hearing.
