GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Authorities apprehended Charles Michael Treadway, 65, yesterday following allegations that he seized a guitar from another man and used it to strike him.

According to a report filed by an officer from the Gainesville Police Department, the incident occurred around 10:53 a.m. on April 22. The victim claimed that Treadway snatched the guitar from his hands while he was playing and subsequently struck him on the back.

Treadway provided his version of events, stating he was requesting money at the southbound exit of I-75 leading to Newberry Road. He alleged that the victim approached in a hostile manner, swinging the guitar at him. Treadway claimed he dodged the attack, took possession of the guitar, and used it in self-defense to strike the victim’s back before returning it. He noted that the altercation continued in a nearby grassy area.

Charged with aggravated battery, Treadway revealed to Court Services that he has recently been in the area for one month. He also has a criminal record spanning North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. Judge Bo Bayer has allowed his release on his own recognizance.
