Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Wanya Kharityjahn Ward, 29, was arrested Tuesday night after deputies said he sent written threats to kill a woman.

An Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to Majestic Oaks at about 11:10 p.m. on July 15 after the victim reported that Ward had begun sending her threatening messages while she was away from her residence. According to the deputy, the victim and Ward are not in a romantic relationship and do not live together, so the case was not classified as a domestic incident.

The deputy reported that the victim provided both text and voice messages, including a text that allegedly stated, “I will kill you.” In the voice messages, Ward allegedly said he would crack the woman’s skull and that he was not afraid of law enforcement. The victim told the deputy she feared for her life and was afraid to return home.

Ward was detained by the deputy and allegedly continued shouting at the victim, saying she would get what was coming to her. After he was placed in the back of a patrol vehicle, Ward reportedly said the situation was all about text messages.

Ward, who is listed as homeless in the arrest report, was charged with making a written threat to kill and unlawful use of a two-way communications device. Court records show he has no criminal convictions. Judge Susan Miller-Jones set his bail at $70,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
