A Texas homeowner is facing murder charges after fatally shooting an armed intruder during a break-in at his residence last week.
Police in Big Spring responded to a call regarding gunfire at the home of Joel Florez last Friday. Upon arrival, officers found the 43-year-old Florez and a 40-year-old woman outside the house. Florez informed the authorities that the intruder, who had been shot, was inside the home, as reported by KOSA.
The intruder, identified as 36-year-old Phillip Lozano, had suffered several gunshot wounds and was declared dead at the location.
Florez reportedly confessed to shooting Lozano, who had entered the house while armed. Despite the confession, Florez is now facing murder charges, though the specific evidence prompting these charges remains undisclosed. It is also unclear if Florez and Lozano were previously acquainted.
Florez’s bond has been set at $1 million.
