Eighteen-year-old Noel Bermudez-Chin appeared in court in Central Islip, New York, following accusations from police that he fatally stabbed 61-year-old Joseph Falvo. The Suffolk County Police Department’s press release detailed that officers responded to a 911 call at 3:42 a.m. on Sunday, reporting a man had been repeatedly stabbed in a trailer located in East Northport, New York. According to Newsday, the 911 call was made by Bermudez-Chin, the grandson of Falvo’s fiancée.

During a court session, as reported by Newsday, prosecutors revealed that Bermudez-Chin confessed to police that he had doused Falvo with boiling oil and water while Falvo was asleep on the couch. Bermudez-Chin also reportedly admitted to stabbing Falvo to death.

Falvo had been engaged to marry Bermudez-Chin’s grandmother, Cecilia Bermudez. As reported by News 12 Long Island, the couple got engaged in February and planned a wedding for July. The same outlet stated that the alleged incident occurred in a trailer situated in the yard of a home. Following a house fire in December 2025, Bermudez, Falvo, and Bermudez-Chin had been residing there.

Documents from the court, accessed by News 12 Long Island, indicate that Bermudez-Chin confessed to stabbing Falvo “five or six times in the back” before inflicting another stab wound to the stomach. However, the motive behind the alleged attack remains unclear.

Falvo was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police located Bermudez-Chin about a mile away from the home and arrested him. He was charged with second-degree murder and booked into the Suffolk County Police Department’s 3rd Precinct, where he remains in custody.

During his arraignment on Monday, Bermudez-Chin was ordered to be held without bail. His next court date is scheduled for April 3.
