The estranged husband of a well-known California doctor has been arrested months after her death in a house fire at her San Marino home.

The fire was reported shortly before 10 a.m. on January 6. Investigators found Irene Gaw-Lai, 56, dead at the scene with severe burns, KABC reported.

Initially, investigators reported that Yoon Lai, 62—also referred to as Kevin Lai—claimed he had taken his twin 16-year-old sons to baseball practice, only to return and find the home engulfed in flames.

Neighbors said the Lais were in the middle of a contentious divorce.

After a thorough investigation involving interviews with neighbors, family, and an examination of surveillance footage, Yoon Lai has been charged with murder.

Investigators have not released details of the murder but say they are presenting the case to the district attorney on Monday.
