An Indiana couple is facing murder charges in connection with the death of a 6-year-old boy.
On Friday, Franklin Elmore Jr., 29, and his wife, Cheyenne Elmore, 27, were taken into custody. Their arrests are linked to the death of Franklin Elmore Jr.’s son, as reported by WDNU.
On the evening of August 3, first responders were dispatched to the Elmore home in Elkhart County following a call indicating that the boy had “hit himself.”
The prosecutor’s report stated that the hospital observed several injuries that were not self-inflicted. It was discovered that the young boy had a punctured lung and traumatic brain injury.
WBTS noted that video surveillance from the child’s room displayed the father abusing the child while his stepmother failed to intervene.
During the investigation, it was alleged that the child was subjected to abusive forms of discipline, which included being forced to perform strenuous physical exercise and being hit with a belt and hands, as reported by WNDU.
The Elmores are being held without bond at the Elkhart County Jail until their next hearing on Thursday, with formal charges expected on Monday.
