Mariah Alvarez, the youngest child, was discovered unresponsive in 2007. Melissa, the mother of 14 children, was a kind and devoted mother, according to the innocence project, despite being physically assaulted and abused by her partner and ex-husband.

On February 15, 2007, Mariah fell a flight of stairs while the family was busy settling things to transfer to a new house.

The toddler, Mariah, had a mild physical disability. Luckily, she didn’t get injured after the fall, but two days later, Ms. Lucio put her daughter down for a nap, and the child did not wake up. She was rushed to the hospital and later pronounced dead.

Where Is Melissa Lucio Today?

Melissa Lucio pleaded guilty and was sentenced to death imprisonment back years back. She is scheduled for execution on April 27, 2022.

As per the records, Melissa was under custody for abusing her 2-year-old daughter Mariah in February 2007. Following Mariah’s autopsy reports, Mariah had bruises on her body, bite marks on her back, patches of hair that had been pulled out, and a broken arm. Doctors pronounced her dead shortly afterward at a local hospital. During the treatments, the emergency room physician said that in 30 years of practice, he had not seen a terrible case of child abuse worse than Mariah’s ever.

However, Melissa’s children and family are probably struggling in their life. Did you know? Melissa was pregnant when she was in trials. She gave birth to twins, two sons in prison. She gave them up for adoption due to her wrongful incarceration.

Is Melissa Lucio Innocent?

Melissa Lucio maintained her innocence during the interrogation. When the photos of her younger daughter is shown to Melissa, she sobbed and said, “It should be me.”

Indeed, she is heartbroken by the death of her daughter. When her 2-year-old daughter fell down the stairs, she was not even present since the family was busy moving things to transfer to a new house.
