A New York Police Department officer faces serious charges after being apprehended on Tuesday for allegedly raping a woman in a vehicle following a Brooklyn party, as announced by Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez.

The officer, Daheem Morris, aged 27, is facing accusations including rape, sexual abuse, forcible touching, and sexual misconduct in connection with the incident that occurred on September 8, according to prosecutors. Although he was released without bail, he is expected to appear in court again on May 8.

Prosecutors revealed that the victim found herself alone in the car with Morris, where despite her repeated protests and attempts to fend him off, he allegedly assaulted her following a party they both attended in Brooklyn.

It’s noted that Morris and the victim had been acquaintances for approximately two years, sharing a circle of mutual friends, according to the prosecution.

Following the alleged attack, the victim confided in her cousin. The case was subsequently investigated by the NYPD’s Internal Affairs Bureau.

Having joined the NYPD on October 19, 2022, Morris was most recently assigned to Police Service Area 1, responsible for patrolling NYCHA developments in Brooklyn. Before this, he served in the 73rd Precinct, which encompasses the Brownsville area.

He has been recognized six times by the Police Department for excellent and meritorious police duty, according to the NYPD’s website.

An NYPD spokesman refused to share details on the case, citing an ongoing investigation.
