A grand jury in North Carolina has charged the winner of NBC’s “Last Comic Standing” from 2007 with several counts of sexual exploitation involving a minor as of September 2.
According to WSOC, comedian Jon Reep was taken into custody in Hickory on Friday after authorities received a tip about online child-related crimes on April 15. This arrest came after a grand jury’s decision.
The tip, linked to child sexual abuse materials, pointed to an account owned by the 53-year-old comedian. This led to a search warrant and the confiscation of his electronic devices, which underwent digital forensic examination.
Consequently, a Catawba County Grand Jury approved an indictment including one count of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and nine counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.
Reep, a prominent comedian from Hickory who gained fame through appearances on shows like HBO’s “Eastbound & Down,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” and Netflix’s “Brad Paisley’s Comedy Rodeo,” was subsequently released on bond.
He was also in a standup special, “Ginger Beard Man” on Amazon Prime, according to WTVY.
After a court appearance in Newton, Reep’s planned Friday comedy show in Goldsboro, North Carolina, was postponed.
According to WTVY, Reep’s Alabama comedy show at the Dothan Opera House has also been cancelled.
