A late delivery at a Florida warehouse allegedly escalated into gunfire when a 67-year-old truck driver threatened to kill an employee and shot him after a dispute over a payload that arrived hours behind schedule.
David Crump is facing a charge of second-degree attempted murder in connection with the incident.
The shooting happened at about 12:30 p.m. on Aug. 26 at a warehouse located in the 1700 block of Boice Pond Road in Orlando, according to a probable cause arrest affidavit.
Witnesses told Orange County Sheriff’s Office deputies they heard two men arguing before the confrontation turned physical. One of the men, later identified as Crump, allegedly had a firearm. The victim punched Crump in the face, and Crump then fired at least one round, striking the man in the arm, authorities said in the affidavit.
Investigators also cited video that allegedly showed Crump choking the victim while yelling, “I’ll kill you.” The affidavit states that Crump chased the man as he tried to run away, then returned to his truck and drove off.
Crump, who was working as a contractor for Road Dog Logistics, later called his supervisors to report an “incident,” but deputies said he did not explain what had happened. The company used the truck’s GPS tracking system to follow its route, which showed the vehicle traveling through Jacksonville and into Georgia.
Deputies with the Glynn County Sheriff’s Office eventually located the truck and pulled it over. Crump was arrested after authorities said he appeared to match the man seen in the shooting video. Investigators also noted he was wearing the same necklace visible in the footage.
Detectives spoke with the victim, who could not identify Crump as his shooter. He detailed his version of events.
“The victim advised he was at work when a truck driver arrived hours late for his dropoff,” deputies wrote.
He told Crump he’d have to wait since the victim was dealing with other clients who were also dropping off payloads. This apparently upset Crump who allegedly walked back to the truck and grabbed a gun.
The victim said he was recording Crump on his phone. Crump allegedly grabbed the victim’s neck and phone. The victim tried to run away and that’s when Crump raised the gun and shot the victim, the affidavit said.
Paramedics took the victim to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Crump has since been extradited to the Orange County Jail, where he is being held without bond. He was appointed a public defender. His next court hearing is on Thursday.
