A 21-year-old Vermont man is accused of sending the FBI a series of threats against President Donald Trump, including statements that he intended to kill the president and shoot him in the head, federal prosecutors said.
According to a federal complaint, Keegan Lagasse of Richford submitted an online tip to the FBI National Threat Operations Center on Nov. 9. The message allegedly read: “This is Keegan I will do that s— f— Donald Trump.”
Lagasse also allegedly wrote, “I’m gonna murder all them,” prosecutors said.
In another part of the tip, Lagasse allegedly threatened to “shoot Him in the head” or plant a bomb to destroy the White House. He also reportedly mentioned the possibility of hiring someone else to kill the president, writing, “Murder for hire I might have someone else Kill Him,” according to the complaint.
Federal prosecutors said the NTOC received another online submission on Aug. 24, 2026, that appeared to come from Lagasse. The complaint states that the sender again identified “Keegan Lagasse” as both the person reporting the threat and its subject. The message simply said, “Im gonna kill trump.”
In a detention motion filed last week, prosecutors acknowledged that Lagasse might not have had the immediate ability to carry out every alleged threat. However, they argued that the repeated messages—and the law enforcement response they required—made the case particularly serious.
The Justice Department also alleges that Lagasse posted a video showing him holding what appeared to be a rifle. Weeks later, he allegedly threatened to “shoot up” a local high school. Citing that history and the number of prior threats attributed to him, the DOJ argued that the circumstances of the case justified keeping him detained.
Prosecutors say Lagasse first made a series of school-related threats in October 2023, when he allegedly threatened to blow up Richford, Missisquoi and Essex high schools in Vermont. In February 2024, he allegedly threatened to bomb the Cadillac Motel in St. Albans City and shoot people there.
The alleged threats continued in September 2024, when Lagasse reportedly threatened to bomb a Maple Fields convenience store in St. Albans and Richford High School. Prosecutors also say he posted on social media in November 2024 that he planned to “shoot up” Richford.
The DOJ’s detention filing states that, following the November 2025 threat against the president, Lagasse reportedly told investigators that he had contacted the FBI tip line, hated the president and intended to kill him. Prosecutors further allege that in July 2026 he told Vermont State Police dispatchers he had previously made threats involving bombs and the president.
Lagasse faces a federal charge of knowingly threatening to kill or cause bodily harm to the president of the United States. A judge ordered him held without bail. He is scheduled to return to court Oct. 5 for arraignment and a preliminary hearing.
