A man from Texas has been charged with the murder of his girlfriend’s uncle following a heated dispute over alleged infidelity. The woman had called upon her uncle for support, leading to a tragic confrontation.

Jaeveyin Porter, aged 21, is facing charges for the fatal shooting of 36-year-old Miguel Garcia, as confirmed by a press release from the City of El Paso. The deadly encounter unfolded on a Sunday after the girlfriend, along with others, returned from attending church services.

Following the church visit, the girlfriend picked up her uncle and brought him back to her apartment, which she shared with Porter. According to local reports from Fox affiliate KFOX, she sought her uncle’s assistance to persuade Porter to leave, as tensions had been escalating since their Halloween argument about cheating.

Authorities reported that Garcia and the girlfriend announced their arrival outside the apartment, but Porter refused to open the door. When Garcia forcibly entered, the girlfriend recounted hearing multiple gunshots and witnessed Porter firing at her uncle as he exited the apartment.

El Paso police were dispatched to the scene at the La Estancia complex on Viscount Boulevard shortly before noon. Upon arrival, they discovered Garcia deceased outside the apartment.

Porter was apprehended by officers just a block away from the scene of the incident.

Authorities began investigating the shooting and learned about the Halloween night argument that continued into Sunday. While speaking with police, Porter reportedly maintained that he was going to open the door to the apartment when Garcia left.

Investigators also spoke with multiple witnesses, with one of them saying they heard the girlfriend ask Porter why he shot her uncle, to which he responded, “I don’t give a f—” or “I don’t f— care,” per KFOX.

Porter was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility.
