Man who killed baby with 'massive impact' changes plea

Michael Mayor (Miami County Sheriff”s Office).

An Ohio man who pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity after fatally slamming a 1-year-old’s head on the floor has changed his plea.

Michael Mayor, aged 34, confessed to the crime of murder on Thursday. This confession was made several months after he was last seen with a 1-year-old girl, for whom his wife was babysitting. As previously reported by Law&Crime, on December 5, 2024, Mayor was left in charge of the child while his wife took other children in her care to school.

Upon her return, Mayor’s wife initially believed the child was merely asleep, but after the child remained unresponsive, she called 911. Mayor later confessed to authorities that he had violently thrown the child onto the bedroom floor because she wouldn’t stop crying.

The police report from that period indicated that the child was rushed to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with a fractured skull at the back of her head, a subdural hematoma, and several other “complex injuries.” The attending physician attributed these injuries to a “massive impact.”

Police said that Mayor admitted that “he ‘shook’ [the baby] and when she cried louder, he began to ‘slam’ her on the floor of the bedroom. He stated this was not done on the blankets, and he did this several times until she stopped crying.” According to the police report, he then said that he believed the girl had fallen asleep and he left her alone.
