GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A 40-year-old man was arrested Thursday after police said he tried to take 15 jerseys valued at roughly $2,000 from the University of Florida Bookstore.
According to the arrest report, Travis William Pavlovski was seen around 4:50 p.m. on August 27 leaving a fitting room while carrying 15 jerseys, all still on hangers. The merchandise included small, medium, and large sizes, with each jersey priced between $130 and $140, bringing the total value to about $2,000.
Police said Pavlovski walked past every point of sale, exited the bookstore, and headed east on Museum Road. After noticing a bookstore employee behind him making a phone call, he allegedly turned back and asked where the “lost and found” was located. When the employee told him there was no “lost and found,” Pavlovski reportedly placed the jerseys on the welcome desk.
Authorities said Pavlovski had already been issued a trespass warning for campus properties on August 26. He was charged with grand theft and trespassing after a warning.
Pavlovski reportedly acknowledged walking past the sales registers and told officers he did not have a way to pay for the jerseys. He also asked to be placed in a drug treatment program, according to the report.
Court records show Pavlovski has eight felony convictions, including one violent felony, and 20 non-violent misdemeanor convictions. He has served two state prison sentences, with his most recent release in 2014. Judge Meshon Rawls set his bail at $22,000 but did not order Court Services to screen him for Drug Court.
