Cops investigate after a body was found in the back seat of a car left at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, Massachusetts (WBZ/YouTube).

Residents of a Massachusetts condo were shocked to realize they unknowingly assisted a suspect in moving a body, authorities reported. They watched news coverage about a man found wrapped in a blanket in a Honda Civic outside a hospital.

South Shore Hospital staff, located about 15 miles south of Boston, contacted police just after 2 p.m. on August 23. They discovered an unconscious individual in the vehicle’s back seat, the Plymouth District Attorney’s office reported. A man alerted the medical staff that there was a body in the car.

Police discovered the person unresponsive, wrapped in blankets and secured with duct tape. Doctors declared him dead at the scene. The victim was identified as 27-year-old Declan Perry. The suspect had left before the police arrived.

While investigating, detectives received critical information from residents of a Scituate condominium. They had helped a neighbor move a “large, heavy blanket” into a black Honda Civic. The individual, named 42-year-old Christopher Caron, claimed there was a “hockey goalie mannequin usually filled with water” inside, according to local Fox affiliate WFXT, citing court documents. Authorities stated Caron lived in the condo and drove Perry’s Civic to the hospital.

The Massachusetts State Police secured a warrant on Friday for Caron’s arrest on murder charges. He turned himself in on Saturday afternoon, as indicated by prosecutors. Caron is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.

Cops collected several items of evidence at the condo. Those included clothing, surveillance cameras and swabs of suspected blood, WFXT reported.

Investigators have yet to release a motive but said the suspect and victim knew each other. They also have yet to release Perry’s cause of death.

According to local ABC affiliate WMTW, Perry was a chef residing in Portland, Maine, and was remembered by friends as an accomplished chef who led the kitchen at the Grill Room restaurant.
