Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Jon Theodore Secreto, aged 46, was taken into custody yesterday morning after reportedly hurling a brick through a window and subsequently claiming someone else hurled an object at him, resulting in an arm injury.
Around 5:08 a.m. on September 17, Secreto allegedly phoned 911, initially reporting that he had been stabbed in the arm. However, he soon altered his account, stating that an object was thrown at him, causing the injury. This prompted multiple law enforcement units to respond to a residence in the vicinity east of the 3100 block of NW 13th Street.
Upon officers’ arrival and interaction with Secreto, he allegedly reiterated the same narrative. However, an officer reportedly reviewed surveillance footage from the residence and observed Secreto throwing a brick into a window of the house; the officer discovered that Secreto had resided there for approximately two weeks until the homeowner asked him to depart.
Investigations revealed that Secreto threw the brick through the window, leading to glass fragments that struck and cut his forearm.
Post Miranda, Secreto again reportedly said someone in the home threw something at him and it cut him.
Secreto is facing charges for breaking the window and providing a false police report. His record includes five felony convictions, including one violent, and five misdemeanor convictions, also including one violent. In June 2024, he was detained for firing a BB gun at a neighbor, eventually pleading no contest to simple assault, receiving a 15-day jail sentence and 6 months’ probation. After failing to maintain contact with his probation officer, he was taken back into custody and sentenced to 30 days, with credit for time already served. Judge Jonathan Ramsey has set a $7,500 bail on these new charges.
