GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Dudley Lamont Mackey, 43, was arrested yesterday after deputies say he threatened to shoot a man during a dispute over money Mackey claimed he was owed.
According to the arrest report, an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy was called at about 10:30 a.m. on September 4 to an armed disturbance in the Southern Pines area, in the 4200 block of SW 20th Avenue. The victim reportedly told the deputy that Mackey was driving by when he stopped, got out of his vehicle, and confronted him about the alleged debt.
The victim said Mackey then pulled out an altered handgun that may have had a “switch” attached and began waving it in the air while threatening to shoot him.
The victim told deputies he had known Mackey for many years and “knew the type of person” he was, so he ran because he feared for his life. He said Mackey chased after him and threatened to shoot him if he did not stop, but the victim was able to get away and call 911.
Mackey has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Court records show he has seven felony convictions, including one violent felony, and 16 misdemeanor convictions, including two violent misdemeanors. He has served one state prison sentence and was released in 2002. Mackey is currently on probation for a third or subsequent violation of driving without a valid license. Judge Sheree Lancaster set bail at $50,000.
