Man allegedly stabbed with kitchen knife during 'disgusting' road rage brawl

A shocking incident described by police as both “brazen and disgusting” unfolded in Melbourne’s northern suburbs, leaving a young man seriously injured with a stab wound. The violent confrontation took place near a police station on Dimboola Road in Broadmeadows around 5 p.m. yesterday, sparking multiple calls to emergency services as witnesses observed what seemed to be a road rage episode escalating out of control.

The chaotic sequence began with a Kia and a Volkswagen Golf reportedly driving erratically, raising alarm as the Kia aggressively pursued the Volkswagen into a nearby petrol station. This high-speed chase saw both vehicles dangerously veering onto the wrong side of Pascoe Vale Road, heightening the peril for all involved.

As the situation intensified, the Kia rammed into the Volkswagen, and subsequently collided with another vehicle on the road. Fortunately, no injuries were reported from this secondary collision. However, the violence escalated further when a 20-year-old man emerged from one of the involved cars and was allegedly stabbed in the upper arm with what appeared to be a kitchen knife.

Both cars drove on the wrong side of Pascoe Vale Road.

The Kia then collided with another car on the road. Nobody was injured in the collision.

A 20-year-old man emerged from one of the cars and was allegedly stabbed in the upper arm with what is believed to be a kitchen knife.

He was left with a deep laceration and was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Detective Sergeant Jess Graham witnessed the ordeal from inside the police station and said the Kia appeared to be “chasing” the Volkswagen.

The incident is believed to have been a road rage attack.

“It’s disgusting, it’s brazen. They didn’t care they were on the wrong side of the road,” Graham said.

“There were people everywhere, cars everywhere. They didn’t care.”

Investigators are still trying to determine who played what part in the affray.

“We’re trying to determine which car they were all in, who did the stabbing, what their involvement is,” Graham said.

“The community’s been fantastic. The people involved? Not so much.”

Four people – a 15-year-old boy, a 17-year-old boy, a 23-year-old man and a 24-year-old man – were arrested at the scene a short time later.

They were all released pending further enquiries.
