A 25-year-old man from Ohio will be imprisoned for life for the murder of his former girlfriend and her 3-year-old son, whom he threw off a bridge.

Desean Brown admitted guilt to two murder charges and received a life sentence on Wednesday without any chance of parole for killing 29-year-old Nyteisha Lattimore and her son, Nylo Lattimore. As part of his plea agreement, the option of the death penalty was dismissed, according to the Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office in a press statement.

Prosecutors detailed that Brown murdered Lattimore by stabbing her 11 times in the neck on December 5, 2020, at her Cincinnati home. The following day, December 6, 2020, he placed Nylo in a stroller, proceeded to the Newport Southbank Bridge—also known as the Purple People Bridge, which links Cincinnati to Newport, Kentucky—and cast him into the Ohio River.

The boy was still alive when he hit the ice-cold water. His body has never been recovered.

A report from the local NBC station WLWT revealed that prosecutors stated Brown purchased a body bag on eBay. On December 11, 2020, he utilized an Uber to transport this body bag to that bridge once again, where he disposed of it over the side. However, the bag snagged on a ledge, prompting its discovery the next day by a security guard who looked inside.

That security guard called 911.

“A bag was thrown near the edge of the bridge and I got curious,” the security guard explained to dispatchers, as reported by WLWT. “I climbed up, knocked it down, and it felt very heavy. When it hit the ground, it was obvious it was a body bag.”

The Cincinnati Enquirer reported that prosecutors did not discuss a possible motive on Wednesday, but at a previous hearing they said Brown blamed Lattimore after she had a miscarriage and he killed her and Nylo as retaliation.

The case previously gained notoriety when Nylo’s father attacked Brown during a 2022 hearing.

“What Brown did was ruthless, and this plea deal reflects that,” said Prosecutor Connie Pillich. “This sentence delivers justice for both Nyteisha and Nylo.”

Rodrick Lattimore, Nyteisha’s father and Nylo’s grandfather, told WLWT that he had a stern message for Brown.

“I just want this guy to know that you had no right to put your hands on my daughter, to murder my daughter and my grandson the way you did,” he said. “What did you do to my grandson? When you go to that prison, you’re going to talk, and when you do, I’ll be waiting. I want to know what really happened to my grandson.”

He said a life prison sentence was appropriate and receiving the death penalty would be the easy way out.

“Go to where you need to go — go to hell,” he said. “That’s where you need to go, go to hell.”
