A man was sent to the hospital after he was shot by an Adams County sheriff’s deputy Sunday evening.

The shooting happened after deputies were called to the scene in the Sherrelwood area of northern Denver around 5 p.m. The initial call was in regards to a separate disturbance, possibly between neighbors, that involved a shooting along the 300 block of W. 80th Avenue.

At the scene, deputies found a victim who had been shot at by the suspect — a nextdoor neighbor — but was not hit, the sheriff’s office said.

“Upon discovering there may be charges for attempted murder, patrol deputies attempted to contact the suspect. While trying to take the suspect into custody, the suspect was shot,” the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff’s office confirmed the person was shot by a deputy.

The suspect was transported to a hospital. No deputies were hurt in the incident.

On Monday morning, the sheriff’s office said the suspect was stable at the hospital. No other suspects are at-large.

Authorities located a gun during their investigation.

A large police presence remained at the scene in the 300 block of West 80th Avenue late Sunday night. Denver7’s Claire Lavezzorio reported Sunday night that the investigation into the original disturbance was focused on two homes in the area.
