A Minnesota family is mourning a 22-year-old man they say rushed to help someone in danger — and lost his life trying to do the right thing.
Cion Jordan was shot late on July 29 in St. Paul, Minnesota, and died after being taken to Regions Hospital, according to the St. Paul Police Department, which announced the case in a press release. Authorities said Jordan, later identified by his family, was one of two men struck by gunfire during the incident. Police have not announced any arrests.
Speaking with local ABC affiliate KSTP, Jordan’s mother, Malinda Aguilar, described her son as a “protector.” She said he left home shortly before midnight to help a woman who was involved in a domestic violence situation.
Aguilar said investigators were reviewing phone records and social media activity connected to those involved in the case. “Every message that was sent between the group will be known,” she told KSTP.
Jordan’s stepfather has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover Jordan’s funeral expenses.
