Marc Fogel has been arrested by a Russian official after attempting to smuggle drugs (marijuana) into his luggage.
He was detained by the authorities in Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport on August 2021.
According to the Russian Ministry, “Fogel turned out to be a teacher at the Anglo-American school and was previously an employee of the United States Embassy in Moscow.”
“The drugs were expertly disguised: marijuana was packaged in a contact lens case, and cannabis oil was hidden in e-cigarette cartridges.”
“Everything was wrapped in plastic and hidden in his sneakers,” according to the authorities’ statement.
Fogel is now charged with narcotics smuggling and possession on a large scale. He could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
