A Columbia, Missouri, father receives a call from his teenage daughter’s high school, reporting she is absent after missing all her classes.
He attempts to reach his 15-year-old multiple times. With no response, he leaves work hastily to check on her. He assumes she may have overslept or possibly missed the bus. However, she is not at home, and several of her possessions, including her phone, are gone.
The teenager is promptly declared missing. Authorities suspect she purposely left home. Despite extensive searches and no activity on her phone since her disappearance, detectives start questioning her friends. Classmates mention she might have been communicating with someone online.
Over four months later, police discover the girl hiding unclothed in a closet in a Fort Collins, Colorado, residence, where she had been compelled to work for a snow removal business.
