A New York woman is facing criminal charges after authorities alleged she knowingly let her children ride in an SUV driven by her girlfriend, who prosecutors say was intoxicated at the time.

Nathalie Alejandro, 27, was released from custody after she was charged with criminally negligent homicide in the death of her 3-year-old daughter, Yasmeen Shaaf. Court records cited by Syracuse ABC affiliate WSYR say Alejandro, Yasmeen, and Alejandro’s 7-year-old son, Mark Shaaf, climbed into a Kia Sorrento shortly after midnight on July 31 while Alejandro’s girlfriend, 25-year-old Jazmine Vann, was behind the wheel.

In a criminal complaint tied to Vann’s case, obtained by local CBS affiliate WKOF, investigators alleged Vann was “intoxicated” and had “admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages before the collision.”

Vann is charged with 17 felonies, among them first- and second-degree vehicular manslaughter, assault, aggravated vehicular homicide, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, driving while intoxicated, and reckless driving. After receiving treatment for crash-related injuries, Vann was booked at the Onondaga County Justice Center, where she remained held on $500,000 cash bail or a $750,000 bail bond, Syracuse.com reported.

Upcoming court appearances for Alejandro and Vann were not immediately listed.
