An 18-year-old Texas mother allegedly handed her 1-month-old son to a stranger at a San Antonio bus stop, asking, “Well, do you want him?” She then reportedly offered the woman the baby’s birth certificate and Social Security card.

Karla Ibarra was waiting to board a bus in downtown San Antonio when she allegedly approached another woman and asked to borrow her phone, police said. Jennafire Benavides told local ABC affiliate KSAT that Ibarra then placed her 1-month-old son in her care.

“Very beautiful baby,” Benavides recalled. Ibarra allegedly told her, “Well, do you want him? I’m going to give him away. I’m going to give him to somebody.”

Online court records show that Ibarra faces a charge of abandoning and endangering a child with intent to return. Her bail was set at $7,000.
