Nearly a Dozen Injured, 2 Critically, After Cycling Stabbing Spree: Suspect Rode Bike Around City, Knifing Random Victims

Numerous people were injured in what appears to be a random stabbing spree in New Mexico on Sunday.

Accoding to the Associated Press, 42-year-old Tobias Gutierrez is accused of stabbing 11 people while he bicycled around Albuquerque on Sunday. Two of the victims are critically injured, and at least one of the victims was stabbed in the neck.

Police began receiving reports of apparently random stabbings at about 11:15 a.m. Sunday, and calls continued to come in througout the afternoon from multiple locations, including a convnience store and the outside of a residence.

No one was killed in the attack, and authorities reportedly said the critically injured victims are in stable condition, as are the other hospitalized victims, and all are expected to survive.

Police spokesperson Gilbert Gallegos reportedy told KRQE that investigators believe the stabbings are random.

“There doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason at this point,” Gallegos said.

It is unclear if the suspect has been formally charged. The investigation is ongoing.
