Mother who just gave birth has car stolen from hospital by baby's father angry after being booted from room due to visitation policy: Police

In a surprising turn of events, a man from Kentucky named Christopher Mollette has found himself at the center of a peculiar incident involving the alleged theft of a car belonging to his ex-girlfriend. The incident unfolded at the Pikeville Medical Center, where Mollette was present to witness the birth of his child.

According to reports from Mountain Top Media, the baby’s mother had allowed Mollette, 37, to wait in her car outside the hospital due to visitation restrictions that prevented him from being inside. The arrangement was meant to keep him warm while she remained in the hospital for the delivery.

Mollette, a resident of Tomahawk with a history of prior arrests, reportedly agreed to this plan. However, after the birth, the situation took an unexpected turn. When hospital staff and the mother later looked for him, Mollette was nowhere to be found, and neither was the vehicle.

Police were soon called to the scene, and officers began investigating by reviewing security footage. As reported by the Mountain Citizen, the video evidence allegedly showed Mollette initially entering the passenger side of the car. However, he soon switched seats, taking the wheel and driving away from the hospital premises.

Attempts by the mother to contact Mollette were met with hostility. When she managed to reach him by phone, he reportedly dismissed her concerns, telling her it was none of her business where her car was before abruptly ending the call. The incident has since drawn attention, highlighting a curious case of familial and legal entanglements.

The mother told police that she tried calling Mollette to get in touch with him. He allegedly answered the phone and claimed it was none of her business where her vehicle was, then hung up on her, according to the police.

Police say Mollette took the car to Paintsville, which is about 45 minutes away from Pikeville Medical Center, where he was found and arrested on Saturday night. He has been charged with auto theft and receiving stolen property, according to online jail records.

Mollette’s prior arrests include possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, along with traffic charges and failure to appear in court, according to The Mountain Citizen newspaper. He was being held on Monday at the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center on a $10,000 bond for each charge he’s currently facing.
