New York citizens are spending hundreds of dollars to ensure personal safety as fear of crimes is on the rise among New York citizens.

A recent poll conducted by the Siena College Research Institute shows that a significant number of New York citizens are worried about crime and are investing in resources to protect their selves for potential crime threat.

Out of the respondents who are New York citizens, 21% of New York citizens are very concerned and 40% are somewhat concerned about becoming victims of crimes.

40% of New York citizens in the poll have spent $100 or more in the past year on goods or services that enhance their sense of safety.

Additionally, 34% of New York citizens have purchased home security cameras, 32% have bought security lights with motion sensors, and 25% have hired professionally monitored home security systems. Furthermore, 16% of New York citizens have taken self-defense classes and 12% have purchased firearms for self-defense.

The poll conducted by the SCRI also reveals some concerning statistics regarding crime.

It shows that 9% of New York Citizens claim to have been assaulted in the last year, while another 9% say they have been victims of burglary. Additionally, almost 40% of the New York citizens in the poll report witnessing violent or threatening behavior in public settings.

The New York citizens’ fear of crime intensified as Former Marine Daniel Penny is facing charges of second-degree manslaughter but has pleaded not guilty after allegedly holding Jordan Neely in a chokehold for 15 minutes after Neely had reportedly “screamed aggressively” on a New York City subway.

Despite the charges, some witnesses have praised Penny, describing him as a hero and saying they felt their lives were in danger.
