Oregon Man Targets Ex-Girlfriend With Explosion When He Learns She’s Seeing Someone New

An Oregon resident is facing serious charges, including attempted murder, following an alleged explosion and gunfire incident at an apartment in Cornelius. Authorities have identified the suspect as 37-year-old Samuel Christian Lund.

According to reports, Lund was charged last week with multiple offenses, including five counts of attempted aggravated murder, four counts of unlawful weapon use, first-degree arson, possession of a firearm by a felon, unlawful manufacturing of a destructive device, and unlawful possession of a destructive device, as detailed by KATU.

Police documents reveal that officers were dispatched to the apartment on the morning of October 6. A resident reported that around 4 a.m., he opened his front door and encountered a masked individual dressed in black standing in the stairwell.

The resident promptly shut the door, only to hear a “tink” sound immediately followed by an explosion. Evidence of the blast was visible in the form of debris at the doorway, alongside several shell casings.

A witness reported observing the suspect leaving the scene on an electric bike, a detail corroborated by surveillance video.

During the investigation, a woman came forward, revealing that she had received threatening text messages from Lund—her former boyfriend—the day before the incident. The messages accused her of being involved with someone else romantically.

” … you ******* turn around and spit in my face,” the messages said. ” …I’m coming for you … I know where you’re at right now … you might as well just ******* come outside … I’ll be there shortly.”

The woman also said that Lund owns an e-bike. It’s not clear if she was at the apartment at the time of the explosion.

When questioned by police, Lund admitted he sent the text messages but denied he’d been at the apartment on the morning of the explosion. He reportedly admitted having experience with explosives and told investigators he understood why they might suspect him of setting off the explosion.

Police served a search warrant, however, and found bombs in a backpack in Lund’s garage, the court documents say.

Lund was arraigned on Friday and is due back in court next Friday.
