Two people have been arrested in North Carolina after authorities discovered the remains of a man and a woman several days apart along a nature trail, sheriff’s officials said.

Jamar Quarmaine Propst and Tosha Lee Lewis, both 36, now face two counts of first-degree murder and conspiracy in connection with the deaths of 31-year-old Raheim McClain Murray and 39-year-old Carla Janon Murray, according to the Burke County Sheriff’s Office.

The case began July 20, when deputies responded to a report of “suspicious circumstances” near the nature trail at Simpson Park in Glen Alpine, a small community about 80 miles northwest of Charlotte.

Human remains were recovered the following day and later identified as Raheim Murray. On Friday, investigators secured arrest warrants charging Propst and Lewis with one count each of first-degree murder and conspiracy, and both were taken into custody without incident.

Later that same Friday, investigators found a second set of human remains, which were subsequently identified as Carla Murray. Authorities then obtained additional warrants charging the pair with a second count of murder and conspiracy.

The Burke County Sheriff’s Office said it requested assistance from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, which helped process the scenes and support the ongoing investigation.

Officials have not released several key details, including the Murrays’ causes of death or how long their bodies may have been in the park. Investigators also have not publicly identified a motive or described any relationship between the suspects and the victims. Deputies said the Murrays lived at a residence roughly 12 miles from Simpson Park.

Propst and Lewis remain at the Burke County Jail without bond. Their next court dates are set for Aug. 18.

The case remains under investigation.
