In a disturbing case out of Illinois, authorities have apprehended the parents of a newborn whose remains were discovered in a shallow grave last Friday.
Nicole Pokrzywa, aged 36, reportedly gave birth to a baby girl at a residence in Wilmington in October 2024. According to reports from WSPY, the newborn was initially found in a toilet, where her father, 38-year-old William Cosmen, allegedly attempted to force her down the drain using a plunger.
The tragic sequence of events saw the infant’s body remain in the toilet overnight before being buried. WFLD reports that the baby’s remains were placed in a beer box and interred on the property in Wilmington, with a makeshift headstone marking the site.
An autopsy, as reported by WSPY, revealed that the baby was between 24 and 27 weeks gestation, weighing between five and seven pounds at the time of death.
A tip-off led Will County police to the property on Friday, where they unearthed the remains, buried three feet deep, encased in an Old Style beer box, and wrapped in a plastic bag and cloth.
Both Cosmen and Pokrzywa are facing charges of corpse desecration. The exact cause of the infant’s death remains undetermined, pending further examinations.
