An investigation is underway after a 1-year-old Texas girl was reportedly found dead in a hot car on Thursday.
Shavetta Combs, 27, contacted Bexar County police, reportedly stating that her daughter was unresponsive after being left in a car. Shavetta and Aaron Combs, 27, informed deputies they had taken their baby when picking up their other children from school but neglected to bring her inside upon returning home, as reported by the San Antonio Express-News.
The toddler was allegedly left inside the vehicle for over two hours. The parents only became aware of the situation when their other child began searching for her.
Shayetta and Aaron Combs face charges of injury to a child resulting in serious bodily injury or death. The medical examiner will determine the official cause of their daughter’s death.
If confirmed, Combs’ daughter is the 26th child to die in a hot car this year. According to No Heat Stroke, 39 children died in hot cars in 2024.
