Police hunting down man believed to be armed with gun in Perth

Western Australia Police have urged a man who is believed to be armed with a gun in Perth to hand himself in, and pledged not to stop searching until they find him.

An urgent search is under way for 53-year-old Jason James Cockie, who is wanted for his assistance in an active investigation into an incident at Clarkson about 10pm yesterday.

Detective Senior Constable Damian Webb said a shot was fired into a home while one person was inside.

“There was damage to a house, but there was no injuries to any person,” he said.

Webb said Cockie is known to the person at the house but is now missing and potentially armed.

“We believe that Mr Cockie is known to the persons at one of the houses, but our main priority at the moment is to locate Mr Cockie as we believe that he may pose a risk to the community,” he said.

Webb appealed to the missing man to hand himself in, saying police were “not going to stop until we find” him.

“Significant resources are being thrown by police to locate Mr Cockie,” he said.

“This can all be stopped by coming to the police and establishing contact yourself.”

Webb said that while it was “concerning” Cockie was potentially armed and in the community, he posed no additional threat to the public.

“I wouldn’t say that there’s any danger to the public, aside from the fact that any firearm that’s loose in the community poses a risk,” he said.

“There’s certainly no added or extra threat to the public, and certainly no intelligence that we have that suggests that Mr Cockie poses any further risk to the public.”

Cockie is described as about 175 centimetres tall, with a solid build and greying brown hair.
