An Arizona man phoned 911 and, according to police, calmly reported that he had killed his mother and father with a hammer and a knife after becoming angry over being placed on medication.
“They’re lying on the floor,” Jonathan Turk, 29, told a dispatcher, according to 911 transcripts obtained by AZFamily. “I was angry with them.”
An arrest affidavit obtained Wednesday by Law&Crime states that Turk informed the dispatcher he would step outside the family’s Peoria home holding a water bottle and wait there for responding officers.
“He advised he would cooperate,” investigators wrote in the affidavit.
When officers went inside the residence, they reported finding “blood evidence” on the kitchen floor and along the stairs. Turk’s father, Fraser Turk, was discovered at the top of the first stair landing, “covered in blood” and suffering from at least one stab wound, authorities said.
His mother, Tina Turk, was found unresponsive in the master bathroom with injuries consistent with head trauma. Paramedics responded to the home and pronounced both parents dead at the scene.
“While clearing the residence, officers observed, in plain view, a hammer and knife with apparent blood inside a trashcan in an upstairs bedroom,” the affidavit says. “During a custodial interview, and under Miranda, [Jonathan Turk] declined to make any statements.”
While on the phone with the 911 dispatcher, cops say Jonathan Turk calmly told them the following:
“A murder.”
“My parents.”
“Uh, I did it.”
Turk allegedly went to Walmart on the day of the double murder and was caught on camera buying the hammer police believe he used.
According to court documents obtained by AZFamily, Jonathan Turk’s mental health started declining in 2023 and his family tried to get him help multiple times over the years, including three times right before the murders.
Jonathan Turk is facing two counts of murder. He’s being held on a $2 million cash-only bond.
