A Florida employee who was repeatedly reprimanded for falling asleep at work allegedly shot his boss.
Jose Lopez, 81, faces a second-degree murder charge in the death of 61-year-old Delio Trasobares. According to an arrest affidavit reviewed by Law&Crime, police were called to Metro Express in Medley, Florida, on the morning of Oct. 14 after reports of a shooting. Trasobares owned the business. When officers arrived, they found Lopez riding a tricycle through the company’s parking lot.
As officers approached, Lopez allegedly told them without prompting, “I did it,” the affidavit states.
Witnesses told police that, while they were calling 911, Lopez left the building to smoke a cigarette. He then “began to ride a tricycle around the parking lot” until officers arrived, according to the affidavit.
Lopez was taken to a hospital after complaining of chest pain. He appeared remotely from his hospital bed for his first court hearing, where a judge denied him bond. After his release from the hospital, Lopez was booked into jail.
During an interview with detectives, Lopez allegedly said he was “fed up” and had “enough” of Trasobares “insulting him and complaining,” according to investigators.
Lopez is scheduled to return to court on Monday.
