A Texas man accused of killing his aunt’s boyfriend allegedly told investigators he opened fire because the victim gave him “bad vibes,” police said.
Joitorian Bouye, 21, has been charged with murder and remains held in the Travis County Jail after authorities say he fatally shot 35-year-old Tyrell Pordia on Aug. 29. The Austin Police Department said officers were called to an Austin neighborhood following reports of a shooting. When they arrived, they found Pordia suffering from fatal gunshot wounds, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses reported seeing Bouye run from the area after the shooting, according to police. He was later located, taken into custody and arrested that same day.
Investigators said that after Bouye was detained and advised of his rights, he admitted shooting Pordia with an AR-15. Police said Bouye claimed Pordia had given him “bad vibes” and “wanted him dead.” Bouye also told officers he had schizophrenia, according to authorities.
Bouye is facing a first-degree murder charge. His next court appearance was scheduled for Sept. 11.
