A man from Texas is facing a murder charge after reportedly shooting at a driver whom he thought was following him too closely, eventually chasing him to a high school parking lot.
Jason Bartik, age 45, is detained with a $750,000 bond for allegedly murdering 34-year-old Robert Taylor. The Frisco Police Department stated in a press release that they were alerted to a shooting incident that occurred in Frisco High School’s parking area, situated right opposite the police station. Upon arrival, officers discovered Taylor with numerous gunshot injuries and he was transported to a hospital, where he later died.
An arrest affidavit seen by NBC affiliate KXAS indicates that Bartik himself contacted 911, explaining that the incident stemmed from road rage.
The police report mentions that Bartik called 911 around 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, describing involvement in a road rage altercation that concluded at Frisco High School’s parking area. He informed the police that Taylor had been tailgating him while driving on a nearby highway, to which Bartik reacted by abruptly stopping his car.
Bartik recounted that he diverted off the highway into the school parking lot, with Taylor trailing him. Bartik claimed that Taylor exited his vehicle, approached his driver-side window, and began shouting. Taylor allegedly then “extended his arm through the window and struck [Bartik] in the face.”
According to the affidavit, Bartik told police he then allegedly retrieved his gun and fired at least two shots at Taylor, who then fell to the ground, where he was found lying face down by first responders.
Lifesaving measures were attempted to save Taylor’s life, but he died at the hospital.
After detaining Bartik at the scene, officers arrested him and charged him with murder following an investigation into the alleged shooting. According to police, there were no students involved in the incident.
Bartik is being held at the Collin County Jail.
