An intoxicated and jealous husband in Oklahoma fatally shot his wife inside their Ford F-350 after she spoke on the phone with another man. The husband then drove her wounded body to a Walmart to seek medical assistance, according to the police.

Kyle Shackelford, 32, is charged with manslaughter for killing his wife, Rylee Shackelford, 25, on May 26, according to court records.

The details of the incident were found in an arrest affidavit acquired by Law&Crime. The affidavit describes the events on that Monday night before police met the Shackelfords at a Walmart in Garvin County, specifically at 2008 West Grant Avenue, Pauls Valley.

According to the police and an interview with the man involved, Kyle Shackelford became violently enraged while intoxicated. This happened after he answered a call on his wife’s phone and found her former boyfriend—now just considered a “friend”—on the line.

The affidavit states that the former boyfriend reported receiving two missed calls from Rylee that evening. When he returned the video call, Kyle answered and questioned who the caller was, while Rylee could be heard in the background asking for her phone. Once the call ended, the former boyfriend tried to call back multiple times without success. He then received a Snapchat message from Rylee saying, “Please stop before I get my a— beat, I’m begging you.” Unfortunately, he received no further communication from her.

Police encountered Kyle Shackelford and his father-in-law in the F-350 at the Walmart in Pauls Valley shortly before 3 a.m. Rylee Shackelford was found unresponsive in the passenger seat—showing no signs of life, with pale skin and bluish coloring. Earlier that night, the couple had visited a casino, where Kyle had consumed a significant amount of alcohol, drinking “7 or 8 beers from 4 or 5 o’clock,” according to the investigation.

Surveillance video allegedly shows the defendant ordering “double Apple Crown (whiskey) and Sprite along with a double Malibu, a mixed drink containing rum, two different times,” according to the affidavit. He was spotted drinking both whiskey and part of the rum drink, cops say. Kyle Shackelford was also allegedly captured on surveillance buying “BuzzBallz Chillers” at a local store before the fatal shooting.

The couple had been at a casino and had just arrived home when the conflict began, according to the affidavit. The couple first fought in the house, then both went out to the couple’s truck.

“Kyle said that while he and Rylee were seated in his truck … Kyle moved a pistol from where he had placed it on the console,” the affidavit alleges. “The gun fired once, striking Rylee in the left side.”

During his police interview and while speaking to cops at the Walmart, Kyle Shackelford allegedly exhibited signs that indicated a “noticeable level” of intoxication, including “red watery eyes and a slurred speech,” the affidavit says.

Kyle Shackelford allegedly said the shooting unfolded while he and Rylee Shackelford were “bickering.” He told investigators at the station that “he and Rylee ‘had been fighting’ after a friend of a friend called Rylee’s phone.” Kyle and Rylee Shackelford then began to argue.

“Kyle said he was frustrated and went outside to his truck,” the affidavit alleges. “Kyle admitted that he had been drinking and wasn’t leaving. Rylee got in the passenger seat of the truck as Kyle went to get in the driver’s side. Kyle said Rylee was mad and hitting the console where he had set a pistol.”

Kyle Shackelford claimed that as he went to “swipe” the pistol away from the console, it “went off” and shot Rylee Shackelford in the left abdomen. “Kyle said that he went inside to get Rylee’s father … to drive them to the hospital,” the affidavit says.

While on the phone with 911, Kyle Shackelford reported that he was in the truck with his wife to get medical attention and agreed to meet an ambulance at Walmart. Rylee Shackelford’s dad was allegedly driving, according to police.

When cops found the gun Kyle Shackelford allegedly used, it had one empty cartridge still chambered and three live cartridges loaded in the magazine, the affidavit says.

“The Oklahoma State Medical Examiner’s Report states that the bullet entered the left anterolateral chest, 16 inches down from the top of her head and 9 inches from the midline,” the document alleges. “The bullet fractured the left anterior rib #5, perforated the heart through the left ventricle and right atrium and was recovered in the right anterior chest wall. In the written report, no bullet damage was noted on the left arm which could indicate her left arm was pulled back or raised in a defensive manner.”

Kyle Shackelford was booked into the Garvin County Jail on Aug. 26 and was released after posting a $100,000 bond. He’s due back in court on Sept. 12.
