A Florida cosmetologist and his sister are accused of running an illegal dental practice in Orlando for several years, reportedly filing down people’s teeth and fitting veneers, charging clients thousands of dollars, according to local authorities.
A woman claimed that after receiving oversized veneers from Carlos and Yorlady Rendon, she developed a severe gum infection, as reported by the local Fox affiliate WOFL.
“[The woman] wanted to cry because of how they looked,” investigators told the station.
The total number of victims from the Rendons’ alleged scam remains unknown, but officers stated that the operation lasted several years. They amassed significant amounts in cash for their unauthorized dental procedures, although the precise figures are not known.
The Florida Department of Health informed WOFL that Carlos Rendon holds a cosmetology license, authorizing him to provide hair and nail services, but not medical or dental treatments.
“The girl ended up getting infections,” said Dr. Deoraj Ravi Lall, an actual dentist from the area.
“She could face numerous complications that most people wouldn’t anticipate needing to address,” he informed WOFL. “A gum infection can potentially lead to heart issues, kidney complications, and even diabetes. Such a condition can escalate into many problems.”
WOFL reports that the Rendons are facing felony charges, but they have not yet been announced yet. Florida DOH officials and police did not respond to Law&Crime’s requests for comment on Thursday.
