A man from central Kentucky has been accused of assaulting and strangling a woman outside a Dollar General store before making his escape.
Donald Brown, aged 48, faces charges of first-degree strangulation in a domestic violence case and fourth-degree domestic assault that resulted in minor injuries, according to jail records examined by Law&Crime. He was taken into custody on Saturday and is currently held without bond.
According to a press release from the Kentucky State Police, the incident occurred around midnight on Saturday involving Brown and a woman near a Dollar General in Meade County. The two were reportedly in a vehicle when an altercation ensued.
The woman claims that Brown “strangled” her, which led to her falling from the vehicle and hitting her head. Following the incident, Brown fled the scene, while the woman contacted authorities. Police stated that they received a report of domestic violence from the victim shortly after midnight.
Authorities reported that Brown returned to his residence on Jennings Knob Road in Vine Grove. When police arrived, he allegedly refused to come out. The troopers then secured a search warrant and an arrest warrant, leading to Brown’s arrest around 7:30 a.m. after several hours.
The date for Brown’s next court appearance has not been disclosed.
When Law&Crime reached out to Kentucky State Police for more information about the victim’s status and exact area of the incident, the agency said it could not provide any more details given that this was an active investigation.
Vine Grove is a small city in central Kentucky, located about 45 miles south of Louisville.
