Police Search Southern California Landfill for Missing Heidi Planck – Crime Online

Detectives with the Los Angeles Police Department are searching a landfill in connection to the mysterious disappearance of a southern California mother.

KABC reports that the LAPD executed a search warrant at the Chiquita Canyon Landfill in Castaic, California, more than a month after 39-year-old Heidi Planck went missing. Planck, who lives in West Los Angeles, was last seen on October 17 . She went to her son’s football game in Downey, and reportedly left at halftime. She was seen later that day on surveillance video footage outside a downtown Los Angeles residential high rise; her dog on a leash. As CrimeOnline previously reported, the dog was later found, alone, on the 28th floor of the Hope & Flower apartment building.

Planck’s ex-husband and friends have said they don’t know why Planck would have been at the building. Law enforcement officials have been ostensibly silent on Planck’s disappearance until this week, when authorities released a statement indicating they believe Planck was dead.

Detectives are expected to excavate a “specific area of the landfill, manually search it for human remains, and collect any related evidence,” read the statement obtained by KABC. The statement said that detectives believe Planck died at the Hope & Flower apartment in an unspecified “incident,” according to NBC 4. Detectives reportedly found forensic evidence at the apartment building that led them to the landfill. Law enforcement also found Planck’s Range Rover, parked near the apartment building, and impounded it. Authorities had not previously revealed they had found Planck’s vehicle.

Castaic is a census-designated place about 45 miles from the Hope & Flower building, where detectives appear to believe Planck died

According to the KABC, the search could take seven to 10 days. Authorities have not named and suspects in connection to Planck’s death.

This is a developing story. CrimeOnline will provide further updates when more information is available.
